Apple's Journey to 100% Renewable Energy
By Christine Orlowski, emPower Program Administrator
Since 2012, Apple has been hard at work getting their operations to run on 100% green power. Now they have achieved that goal – reporting that all of the company facilities now run on 100% renewable energies by way of renewable energy projects built or financed by Apple. There are now 25 renewable energy projects operating in 11 countries, with plans to add more. Apple has also convinced over 20 companies in its supply chain to commit to 100% renewable energy for business related to Apple products. Apple utilizes solar and wind energy to power their facilities, including Apple headquarters, distribution centers, and retail stores. The company says that it has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 58% since 2011, and prevented 2.2 million metric tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
